Chiseled Edges.

Take a look at this outdoor kitchen. This rustic look is achieved by taking a good old hammer and chisel to the edge of the stone and then rough-sanding any sharp edges. It’s a good alternative to the polished edge, which is much more common. In these pictures (from “Expert Design and Construction” a company out of Sacramento) the edge works perfectly with the stone base.

Something Beautiful.

Part of our job is to bring nature’s million year old creations into your home in the form of polished stone surfaces. We deal in beauty, so I thought I’d post something unrelated to granite but beautiful just the same.

Here one of Pablo Neruda’s most beloved poems, translated to english:

Tonight I can write the saddest lines.

Write, for example: “The night is shattered,
and the blue stars shiver in the distance.”

The night wind revolves in the sky and sings.

Tonight I can write the saddest lines.
That I loved her, and sometimes she loved me too.

On nights like this one, I held her in my arms.
I kissed her again and again under the endless sky.

She loved me, and sometimes I loved her too.
How could one not not have loved her great, still eyes?

Tonight I can write the saddest lines.
To think that I do not have her. To feel I have lost her.

To hear the immense night, still more immense without her.
And the verse falls to the soul like dew to the pasture.

What does it matter that my love could not keep her.
The night is shattered, and she is not with me.

This is all.
In the distance someone is singing. In the distance.
My soul is not satisfied that it has lost her.

My sight searches for her as though to go to her
My heart looks for her, and she is not with me.

The same night whitening the same the same trees.
We, we who were, are the no longer the same.

I no longer love her, that is certain, but how I loved her.
My voice tried to find the wind to touch her ear.

Another’s. She will be another’s. Like my kisses before
Her voice, her bright body. Her infinite eyes.

I no longer love her, that is certain, but maybe I love her.
Love is so short, forgetting so long.

Because through nights like this one I held her in my arms,
my soul is not satisfied that it has lost her.

Though this be the last pain that she makes me suffer,
and these the last verses that I write for her.

Stone Giants.

Cutting mountains into countertops is easier said than done.

Take a look at the size of this saw blade!

Keep in mind that the rock is probably about six or seven feet tall.

Timeless Stone.

Chances are you recognize this young man:

Michelangelo’s David (this one’s a replica, actually) was sculpted more than 500 years ago using Carrara marble, which came from quarries in the Italian city of the same name.

Flash forward to today, when one of our customers picked the same material, quarried in the same place, for her kitchen countertops!

Italians have been using Carrara surfaces in their kitchens for centuries. It is a material that has withstood the test of time because of its beauty and durability.

Here it is again in a super-sleek, modern Italian kitchen:

You can pick your own slabs of Carrara marble at United Materials on 1959 Trade Center Way.

Commercial Work

This is a bar we made for the Foxfire clubhouse here in Naples. The wider granite surface had been installed before and we added the arm rest in matching material- Baltic Brown.

This is a very unique job. Putting a bevel that size on such long runs of material took some ingenuity, if I may say so myself.

Our installer did an amazing job with the seams!

The inside of the arm rest was finished with a half-bullnose edge.

I would like to thank Mr. Brian Heidel, the club manager, for letting us take these pictures. You can visit the Foxfire Country Club page to learn about their great amenities.

Juparana Bordeaux

Like the wine that gave it its name, this is a hearty red stone that can suggest fleshy ripe fruit, spices, licorice and earthy notes that combine perfectly with light wood cabinets like maple or alder, or dark cabinets like mahogany or walnut.

We stone people get a little carried away with the metaphors sometimes, but to spare you a thousand words, here’s the picture:

You can pick up this very slab, or one from this lot at Omicron‘s warehouse- 3811 Enterprise Ave Ste 1, Naples.

You can see another picture of the finished product here.

Kichen Island

When you have guests or family over, where do you usually end up hanging out? In the kitchen! For whatever reason, maybe because there’s food there, or because there’s no TV to distract you from your conversation- people end up in the kitchen. That’s why you need a kitchen island. It’s like having a big dining table right in the middle of the kitchen, with the added bonus that you can have the cooktop built right in like in this picture below.

In this island the stone was cut close to the cabinet doors underneath and a stone tabletop with high chairs was added. You could also do without the doors, extend the overhang of the stone a good 12 inches, round it off and add chairs or stools under it.

Master Bath in Caesarstone

Take a look at our latest installation. This is a master bath vanity done in 3 cm thick Caesarstone “Buttermilk” with an ogee edge.

When I was about to take this photo today, the homeowner asked me to “Wait, wait! Let me put up  the pictures that go on the wall!” She’s really likes her new bath and wanted me to capture the “full effect”. She’s right to be proud, it looks great!

Our customers deserve excellent craftsmanship, and that’s exactly what they get.

Undermounted Kohler-2210 his and hers sinks.

At Tec’s Office

We went to visit our friends from Tec Plumbing today. We did the countertops for their bathroom and office kitchen, so I had a chance to see them with the plumbing fixtures and everything else. Tec shares their office with two interior designers, so as you can imagine, the place is very well decorated.

The bathroom vanity was made in dark brown quartz with a 5 inch mitered apron finish. The sink is a recessed vessel bowl.

The little wet bar was also done in quartz with straight polished edge and undermount stainless steel sink.

Tec handles plumbing, construction and remodeling. You can visit their facebook page here.
